Biography
Oliver Oakes joined BWT Alpine F1 Team as Team Principal in August 2024, becoming the second youngest Team Principal in Formula 1 history.
Oli brings with him a very strong motorsport portfolio as a former Red Bull junior driver, 2005 Karting World Champion, and Founder & Team Principal of the accomplished Hitech Grand Prix team. For almost a decade, Hitech have been at the forefront of single-seater competition on a world and national stage, competing and winning in FIA Formula 2, FIA Formula 3, GB3, and FIA Formula 4 (British/UAE).
Oli had a successful early racing career with victory in the Karting World Championship at 17-years-old. He was picked up by Red Bull, alongside the likes of Sebastian Vettel and Sebastién Buemi. He took pole and the win on his debut in Formula BMW UK and was nominated for the prestigious Autosport BRDC Award.
In 2015, he switched to management and launched Hitech to compete in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship, finishing second in the Teams’ Championship during their first season. They continue to race successfully in top level single-seater series globally and are one of the most well-regarded teams in motorsport.
Oli’s role at BWT Alpine F1 Team is his first in Formula 1. He reports directly to Renault Group CEO Luca de Meo and oversees the entire BWT Alpine F1 Team operation.
